FINISH CARPENTRY & BUILT-INS · ALDER CREEK · EST. 2004

Built for the hand, not just the eye.

Bramble & Burr is a father–daughter finish shop on River Road: stairs, mantels, libraries and whole-house trim — drawn at our bench, built in our shop, installed by the same four hands. Five-year workmanship warranty, in writing.

What we do

Made at the bench, set in your rooms

Built-ins & libraries

Built-ins & libraries

Floor-to-ceiling in white oak or painted poplar: window seats that hold linens, bookcases with a ladder rail, mudroom walls that survive backpacks and hockey gear. Drawn full-scale before one board is cut.

Stairs, treads & railing

Old houses drift, so skirts get scribed to the wall you actually have. Oak treads, returned risers, newels bolted through the framing — a rail rated for a teenager at full speed.

Mantels & fireplace walls

Mantels & fireplace walls

Floating mantels on hidden steel, tile or paneled surrounds, hearths scribed to stone. The room gathers around the fireplace; we make it worth gathering around.

The rhythm

From first visit to final coat

1

The measure visit

We laser the rooms, photograph every condition and talk budget at the tailgate. Ninety minutes, free, no obligation.

2

Shop week

Your project is drawn full-scale and built in numbered pieces at the bench — finish-sanded, crated, delivered flat.

3

Install days

The same four hands. Mats down, plastic up, one room at a time. Most installs run two to four days.

The stairs were the reason we hired them; the window seat is the reason our friends now have their number.

Bill drew the library full-scale on butcher paper across our kitchen floor. What got built was the drawing — to the sixteenth of an inch.

Every house on this street had the same 1980s mantel. Ours is now the one the neighbors knock to see.

Do you work on old houses?

Most of our work is pre-1940. Nothing in an old house is square, level or plumb, so we scribe instead of force: skirts to walls, mantels to stone, bookcases to ceilings that drift an inch across the room.

Paint-grade or stain-grade?

Both, quoted side by side. Paint hides and stain confesses — if the grain is worth showing we will say so, and where MDF serves the paint job better than poplar we will say that instead.

Can we live at home during the install?

Yes. We work one room at a time, seal doorways with plastic and run a HEPA vac continuously. The kitchen has stayed functional on every job we have ever run.

How far will you travel?

Alder Creek plus forty minutes, quoted with a mileage line beyond that. We have quoted jobs in three states and built two of them — ask; the worst answer is a line on the estimate.

Let us measure the rooms.

The visit is free and the drawings are yours to keep. Worst case, you leave with a full-scale plan and a real budget number.
