Height is a trade of its own
A forty-foot chimney is not a tall version of a twenty-foot one — the draft behaves differently, the freeze cycles hit harder, and the crown takes weather the lower courses never see. We scaffold rather than ladder, we carry the sectional rods the county forgot, and every reline we have run since 2004 is still drawing.
Sweep & inspect
Rod and rotary sweeps with the camera pass included — you watch the flue walls on screen while the rods are still warm. Creosote classed, the mantel log written, and the video left with the house.
Relines that draw
Insulated stainless sized to the appliance and the height, or cast-in-place where the masonry needs the spine. Notch chimneys punish undersized liners with creosote and oversized ones with condensation — the math is done before the pipe is ordered.
Rebuild & waterproof
Crowns struck to shed, brick tuckpointed in matched mortar, flashing rebuilt in steel rather than taped in aluminium, and a breathable water repellent that keeps the frost from splitting what we just repaired.

Scaffold, not ladder
The stack is rigged and roofed over — the notch wind gets a sail, never a worker. Runners down through the house before a rod goes up.
Camera first

Stacks of the Notch
Six chimneys from last season — swept, relined, rebuilt — photographed while the scaffold was still up, which is the honest angle.
Three outfits quoted the reline from the driveway. Long Flue scaffolded, ran the camera, and told us the truth: the liner was fine, the crown was not, and the fix was a third of the price. The folder has photographs of every joint, and the first fire after drew like a new chimney.

Why scaffold instead of ladder?
Because a forty-foot stack in notch wind is a workplace, not an errand. Scaffolding costs an hour and has never once cost us a technician — and it is the only way the crown work gets done properly rather than speedily.
Cast-in-place or stainless?
Stainless for a sound stack and a straightforward appliance; cast-in-place when the masonry itself needs the structural spine. The camera decides which, and we show you the frames that decided it.
Do you handle pellet and wood stoves?
Most of the book, these days — stove liners are the most commonly undersized pipes in the county. The liner is sized to the manual and the height, verified by the draw test at the end.
What breaks chimneys up here?
Water, entering through a cracked crown or failed flashing, then freezing and splitting from inside the courses. The repair that lasts is the one that sheds water first and looks good second — which is the order our rate card is written in.
They scaffolded the church chimney in fog and finished the crown in sun two days later. The photographs went to the vestry with the invoice — every joint visible — and the boiler’s draw improved the week the liner went in.
Our stove smoked into the room for two winters and two “sweeps” did not change it. Long Flue sized the liner to the manual instead of to the shelf, and the smoke problem ended the afternoon the pipe went in.
The mantel log is a small thing that no other company left us. Two years of them now, and you can watch the creosote class hold steady — which is the whole reason we will never phone anyone else.
