Camera inspections, level 2
A full video pass of the flue from damper to crown, screen by screen, burned to a drive you keep. Cracked tile, gaps at joints, a warped damper — you will see exactly what we see, before the quote, with the timestamps still on it.

Sweeps that leave a log
Rotary and rod sweeps on wood and oil flues, creosote classified by degree, the soot vacuumed before it becomes your living room. The log we leave on the mantel records depth, passes and what next season’s fire will do to it.

Relines, only when true
Stainless and cast-in-place relines sized to the appliance, not to the invoice — a third of the relines we are called to quote turn out to be unnecessary, and saying so has cost us work and earned us the hollow.

Crowns, caps & tuckpoint
A cracked crown is how water gets a lease inside a chimney. We rebuild crowns to shed, set caps sized to the draw, and tuckpoint the brick the mortar was abandoning — matched colour, struck joints, no smears.

How a visit goes
Ninety minutes, most visits. We lay the runners, the vacuum stays running, and the house is cleaner than the fire left it.

Runners on, vacuum lit
Floor covered, hearth taped, the flue sealed at the damper before a single rod goes up. The house is a museum for the next hour and a half, and it stays one.
Minute 10
The camera pass
Damper to crown on video, narrated as we go. This is the evidence the quote stands on, and it is yours — drive, timestamps, the frames where the tile splits.
Minute 30
The sweep
Rod and rotary passes until the walls read clean on the second camera pass. Creosote classed first to third degree, because third degree changes what a sweep may honestly claim to fix.
Minute 80
The log and the answer
A written log on the mantel — depth, passes, the crown’s condition, the damper’s — and a plain sentence about what, if anything, the flue needs next. “Nothing until next autumn” is the most common sentence we write.

The hollow’s chimneys
Six flues from last season’s book — swept, relined and rebuilt. Every one has a video in a drawer in the house it belongs to.
Two companies told us we needed a reline that week. Emberwright ran the camera, turned the screen toward us, and showed us the flue did not — then swept it, wrote the log, and told us which autumn to expect the real work. We have them out every year since.

The four the phone answers most. Wood, pellet, oil or gas — the camera does not care and neither do we.
How often does a flue really need sweeping?
A cord of seasoned wood per season, sweep yearly. More wood, or greener wood, and the creosote class decides — the log from your last visit says which class your flue runs, and that is a better calendar than any rule of thumb.
Do you reline on the same visit you inspect?
Never. The camera report comes first, you take the drive, and the reline — if it is real — is priced from the video and scheduled deliberately. Same-day reline quotes are how unneeded relines happen.
Gas and oil flues too?
Yes, and they are inspected rather than merely brushed — the acids in their condensate attack from the liner out, so the camera matters more there, not less. The rate card prices both.
What is a level 2 inspection for?
Property transfers, a chimney fire or lightning event, a change of appliance, or an insurance question. It is the video pass plus the accessible portions of the structure, written up the same day for the people who need paperwork.
