Colored & architectural concrete · Verbena Flats · third generation

Concrete the colour of the ground it sits on.

Claybank pours integral-color flatwork in ten southwestern pigments — terracotta, adobe, dust and clay — sealed matte so a patio reads as the desert at six o’clock and still reads that way after a hundred summers.

Concrete the colour of the ground it sits on.

Integral color is batched at the plant, in the truck, through the full depth of the slab — never dusted onto the surface. What that means for you: a scratch cannot find a different colour underneath.

Recent pours

Six jobs from the Verbena valley, each a different pigment doing its job in its own light. Colour is judged wetted and in daylight — so that is how we quote it, and how you will check it.

The fig orchard
The fig orchard — barn apron, one placement, jointed on the map
Every other outfit showed us a fan-deck of paint. Claybank showed us a 2-foot square they had poured in OUR pigment, wetted it, and set it against the stucco. The patio matches the hill it sits on.
R. Verdugo · Adobe-drag court · Rancho Seco
The wall and the curb and the drive all came out of one truck, one batch plant, one mind. Four years of sun and the colour has not budged — the sealer visit arrives before I remember to want it.
P. Almendra · Wall, curb & drive · Almendra house
They re-pointed the joint map twice because a fig root was going to argue with it eventually. That is the kind of thinking you cannot buy at a discount.
S. Ochoa · Barn apron · the fig orchard

The pigment goes through

Integral color is batched into every cubic metre, not dusted on the surface. If a finish fails or a pigment reads wrong inside seven years, we re-do it — materials, labor and the second seal.

Color, sun, salt

Asked at every measure

The three questions the valley asks first, answered the way we answer them standing in the yard.

Will the color fade?

Integral pigment is chemistry, not paint: it oxidizes a shade in the first year and then holds for decades. The matte sealer is what takes the abuse — and it renews on a three-year cycle we schedule for you.

How does it handle desert sun?

Light pigments reflect, dark pigments hold heat underfoot — we talk you through both with the sample square standing in your own sun. The concrete itself is 4,000-psi air-entrained whatever color you choose.

Can we see the actual colour first?

Yes, and we insist on it. We pour a two-foot sample in your chosen pigment, set it on your ground, and wet it — the quote waits until you have seen it at noon and at dusk.

What about pool water and salt?

A sealed colored slab shrugs both. The seal is matte, non-yellowing acrylic renewed every third year; salt season is exactly why the calendar exists.

See your ground in it.

The color visit is free across the Verbena valley: we pour a two-foot sample in your pigment, set it on your ground, and quote from the measure the same week. Telephone (555) 772-9354 or write claybank@coloredconcrete.example — the sample comes before the quote, always.
