Concrete below the frost line on every post — corners and gates first, not last. A fence is a post job with boards on it; we budget the digging accordingly.

How a fence goes up
The same sequence on every job — the only variable is your project.
Day 1
Walking the line
We walk it with you, flags in hand, and price what we see — the slope, the rock, the rhododendron you would rather keep. The quote is written the same day and holds for sixty days.
Days 2–5
Lines & locates
The plat pulled, 811 called, the string set a board-width inside your marks. Boring paperwork — and the entire difference between a fence and a lawsuit.
Week 1
Posts & concrete
Augered to 42 inches, plumbed and braced, concrete mixed on site rather than poured dry and hoped at. The line cures over a weekend before a rail ever touches it.
Week 2
Rails, boards, gates
Rails crowned, boards spaced to a pencil width and checked every tenth by level, gates hung on welded hinges and tuned twice — once that day, once a month later.
Handover
The month-later visit
We come back after the first hard rain, re-tune every gate and hand over the warranty card with the line's measurements on it. That visit is free, always.
Our gate opened with one finger the day they left, and still does — two autumns later. They came back after the first storm like they said they would, tightened two hinges and refused the coffee money.
Sensible questions
How long will the fence last?
The cedar boards, thirty years with a wash and a stain every five or six. The concrete and the line — longer than either of us will be arguing about it. The warranty covers fifteen of those years in writing.
Can you follow a slope?
Cedar does it with a racked line or stepped panels — your call on the walk. Chain-link racks naturally, and aluminum panels handle about three feet of fall in ten. We price the slope we can see, never an average.
What about the neighbour's side of the line?
We build a board-width inside your marks, every time. If your neighbour wants to share the line we will happily build the better two-sided fence — but that conversation is yours to have before the auger arrives.
Do you remove the old fence?
Yes, and haul it — as its own line on the quote, never folded into the foot price. Most old lines around here are rotted at the post, which is exactly the part we are pickiest about.
