Longacre Fence & Gate · Maple Dell & Ondaga County · Since 1994

A fence outlives the reason you built it.

The dog goes, the kids grow, the garden changes its mind — the line stays. Longacre builds cedar, chain-link and composite fences to the only standard that matters thirty years on: posts below frost, rails crowned, gates that swing true in their tenth autumn.

What we do

Three lines, three temperaments

Cedar, the one that ages well

Cedar, the one that ages well

Western red boards spaced by eye and checked every tenth by level, rails crowned so the water runs off, posts at eight-foot centres in concrete. It takes stain for a decade or silvers if you leave it alone — from $34 a running foot.

Chain-link, the one that outlives everything

Nine-gauge galvanized or black vinyl-coated, top rail tensioned, terminal posts in concrete. It is not the romantic choice and it is the last fence you will ever need to think about — from $19 a running foot.

Chain-link, the one that outlives everything
Gates hung like doors

Gates hung like doors

Welded hinges on drive gates to sixteen feet, latches set where your arm actually is, and every gate tuned twice — once the day it hangs, once a month later after the wood has decided where it lives. From $590 hung.

How it goes

Locate, set, build — three days on your calendar

The same sequence on every job — the only variable is your project.

  1. Day 1 — Locate

    Everything found before anything digs

The plat pulled, 811 called, the string set a board-width inside your marks. We walk the line with you, price what we see — slope, rock, the rhododendron you would rather keep — and write the quote on the tailgate. It holds for sixty days.

  2. Set day

Every post, every hole, one day

Augered to 48 inches, plumbed, braced and backfilled in concrete mixed on site — corners and gate posts first, because they carry the most and forgive the least. The line cures overnight before a rail ever touches it.

  3. Build day

    Rails, boards, gates, sweep

Rails crowned and toe-nailed, boards spaced to a pencil width, the gate hung and tuned, the site swept — and the month-later visit booked before the truck leaves. That second tuning is free, always.

They set two hundred and eighty feet of cedar in three days, and the gate on the drive has not needed a touch in the four autumns since. My neighbour priced three crews and hired the one I told him to — that is the second fence on this road with their initials on the last post.
