Reinforced sectional — DP+40 to DP+55
The workhorse of the bluffs: 24-gauge steel skins over an R-16 polyurethane core, internal struts every sixteen inches, and a wind certificate that names the design pressure your opening was engineered to. From the first gust forecast to the last insurance inspection, the paper and the door say the same thing.
Impact-glazed full-view
Tempered, laminated lights that take the windborne debris a nor’easter throws — the two-by-four test bounces off and the door keeps its envelope. Thermally broken aluminium frame, R-9 assembly rating, and the best-lit garage on the coast as a side effect.

The opening meets the wind map
Width, height, headroom and side room to the sixteenth of an inch — then the exposure class: distance to open water, the fetch across it, your elevation. The wind map decides the design pressure; we only write down what it says.

Door model, design pressure, strut spacing, glazing type, anchor schedule into the studs — signed by us and filed with your certificate. What gets built is what got stamped, nothing else.

The door is assembled to the engineering and then weighed on the shop scale, so the torsion pair is matched to actual pounds — a 20,000-cycle pair standard, 50,000 where a boat launch doubles the openings a season makes.

A calm morning, by design
Coastal installs are scheduled inside a weather window — the Point gets enough surprises without a half-hung door. Old door out, anchors set to the schedule, tracks dead plumb before the first section rides them.

Static pull, then the balance test
A firm outward pull proves the door holds its envelope; the opener comes off and the door lifts to waist height and stays. You watch both, you sign the sheet, and the wind warranty runs from that signature.

The certificate is the contract
Design pressure, strut spacing, glazing, anchors — one engineering sheet, signed twice. If the door that hangs on your bluff differs from that sheet in any particular, the difference is ours to make right at our cost, storm season included.

Why the door is engineered before it is priced
An inland installer picks a door from a rack and hopes; a coastal one runs the wind map first, because a door that fails here fails outward, at night, in the middle of the insurance year. Ninebark has hung openings on this coast since 1988, and the rule from the first season survives: the map decides the door, the scale decides the spring, and the certificate says so on paper. It costs a survey visit and it is the entire difference between a door and a claim.

The coast, in figures
The adjuster wanted proof the door was rated, not a receipt saying we bought one. Ninebark handed me the engineering sheet at commissioning — design pressure, strut schedule, anchor sizes — and the claim office had never seen anything like it. The February the shingles went, the door held and the paperwork closed in a week.
Third door in twenty years on Windward Lane, because the salt ate the first two from the inside out. The marine package on this one — stainless everything, lined drums — was described to me part by part before I agreed to it. Three winters in, the hardware still looks installed-last-month.
They refused to quote over the phone. Came out, stood in the driveway looking at the water for a while, and said “Exposure D, no arguments” — then quoted a door I had never heard of with a number that did not move. Install day was the calmest Tuesday of that month, on purpose.
We bought the cottage in September and the nor’easter arrived in October, right on schedule, with the old door bowing inward at the centre like a sail. The crew from Ninebark surveyed it that week, engineered to the exposure, and hung a DP+55 sectional with struts every sixteen inches before the next system lined up off the water. When the gauge on the point read ninety-one that night, my wife and I sat in the kitchen watching the door the way other people watch the sea. It did not move a millimetre. In the morning the certificate on the counter looked like the most beautiful document we own.

What does DP+55 actually mean for my house?
It means the door assembly was tested to hold fifty-five pounds per square foot of wind pressure — roughly what a sustained ninety-plus-mile-an-hour gust delivers at exposure — without the section leaving its guides. The number is decided by your opening size, exposure class and wind zone, which is why the survey exists: DP is read off the house, not picked off a menu.
Does a rated door change my insurance?
Often, and always in the good direction. Wind-mitigation credits reward documented openings — impact glazing, rated garage doors, reinforced connections — and the certificate we file is written for exactly that inspection. Coastal clients routinely see the survey pay for itself inside two renewal cycles; ask your broker to read the sheet before you file it.
Is impact glass worth it if I already have shutters?
Shutters protect the opening when deployed; impact glazing protects it always, with nobody home to buckle anything before the storm. If the garage is attached and the house is occupied year-round, laminated lights are the honest answer. If it is a summer place boarded every September, a rated sectional with a rolling screen behind it is the cheaper engineering.
Why do coastal springs fail faster?
Two clocks run against them: cycles and corrosion. A boat-launch house can open the door four thousand times a season, so we wind 50,000-cycle pairs where the calendar demands it; and salt air attacks cable and drum steel, so the marine package swaps the vulnerable parts for stainless before the first winter. The scale and the map together decide both.
Can you rate the door I already own?
Sometimes — a sound sectional can gain struts, hardware and a certification if its skins and stiles are honest, and the survey will say so plainly. When it cannot, we say that plainly too and quote the replacement. The sheet only gets stamped for doors that will actually hold it.
