We design heating around electricity the way it is priced at night and produced all winter: cold-climate heat pumps sized by Manual J, installed ducted or ductless, with the utility rebate paperwork filed by us and the oil tank dry-down handled in the same week.
REBATE DESK: Foxglove Power pays up to $2,000 on a qualifying cold-climate install and $1,100 on a heat pump water heater. We file both, deduct them from the invoice, and front the difference.

The load calculation
A Manual J on every house before anything is sold: orientation, glazing, insulation and air-tightness in; heating and cooling loads per room out. If the math says your furnace was oversized — it usually was — you will see it in print.

Ducted conversions
For houses with existing ducts: a right-sized cold-climate heat pump on your air handler, ducts sealed and balanced, and backup strips only where the load calculation says they belong.

Ductless & multi-zone
For additions, ranches without ducts, and the room that never agreed with the thermostat: one to four heads, each with its own control, whisper-rated, heating to −13°F.

Service & seasonal tune-ups
Refrigerant charge weighed, airflow verified, sensors calibrated — every visit logged against your commissioning sheet so the system is measured against its own day-one numbers.

Recent retirements
Three quotes, and Watt & Weather was the only one that measured anything. The Manual J said our house needed half the capacity the other two had priced. Winter bills dropped from $310 a month on oil to $148 on the heat pump.
They handled the oil tank, the rebate forms and the electrical permit in one week — I signed twice and checked nothing. The $2,000 rebate came off the invoice, not as a mailing-in-later homework assignment.
Our addition was always fifteen degrees off the rest of the house. Two ductless heads, one morning of install, and the kids stopped arguing about bedrooms. On the −9°F night in February it did not even flinch.
The right-size promise
If a system we sized fails to hold your house at 70°F on the coldest night in ten years of records, we fix the shortfall — more capacity, more heads, whatever the re-run of the numbers says — at our cost, not yours.
Every other trade sized my house by looking at it. Watt & Weather sized it by measuring — and then printed the document that proved it.

Will it heat my house when it is below zero?
Cold-climate heat pumps hold full output to around 5°F and keep running to −13°F. The Manual J tells us your design-day load — the coldest 1% of nights in Foxglove Heights records — and we size to that number, with electric backup only where the math asks for it.
What does retiring the furnace actually involve?
Decommission and dry-down of the tank or gas line, the heat pump install, and — if ducts exist — sealing and balancing them. We sequence it so you are never without heat: the new system goes in and runs before the old one comes out.
How do the rebates work?

Ducted or ductless — which one is my house?
Ducted suits houses with sound existing ductwork; ductless wins for homes without ducts, additions, and room-by-room comfort problems. Roughly half our conversions end up hybrid: ducted downstairs, one ductless head for the stubborn room. The load calculation decides, not the brochure.
Do you still service gas furnaces?
Yes — tune-ups, combustion analysis and repairs for the furnaces of clients in mid-transition. We will keep yours honest while you decide, and the diagnostic fee is credited if you convert with us within the year.
