The rate is on the wall. The wall is on this page.

Seventeen years of printed flat rates in Aldervale — the diagnostic is $79 in July and on the coldest Tuesday of February, overtime does not exist in our invoicing software, and the gauge readings that decided your repair go home with you on paper.

No overtime since 2009 · 41,206 calls answered · 4.9★ across 1,773 reviews · (555) 318-6042

THE WALL, PUBLISHED: every rate below is the rate pinned on the shop wall at 6 Gauge Alley — the same figure nights, weekends and holidays, because the wall does not know what time it is.

The rate card, off the shop wall.

Most shops quote after they arrive and after they know how desperate you are. Ours is written down first, in a shop where it has hung since 2009. Every figure is the whole figure — parts, labour, disposal, permit — and the wall has never once been edited after a job started.

What the shop actually does

01

No-heat emergencies

Furnace dead at midnight, boiler clanging on Christmas: a stocked truck and a flat rate, whatever the clock says. Median arrival across the flats is 74 minutes, and the invoice matches the wall to the dollar — check it against the photo on this page.

02

Cooling-season triage

A seized compressor in August is an emergency too. We measure subcooling and superheat before we diagnose, weigh refrigerant to the gram on every recharge, and print the numbers — because "low on Freon" without a leak found is a subscription, not a repair.

03

Heat pumps & boilers

Sized by Manual J and said so in writing since long before it was fashionable. Ducted cold-climate units for whole houses, combi boilers for the old radiator homes on Nine Elbow, and the honest sentence when a repair beats a replacement.

04

The gauge file

Every client gets one: a folder holding every reading ever taken on their system. When your furnace is fifteen and something changes, the answer is usually already in the file — which is why our repairs skew short and our replacements skew late.

I photographed the rate card on their page and held it next to the invoice. Identical — on a Sunday, in a snowstorm, for a blower motor. Seventeen years of that habit is why Nine Elbow has stopped calling anyone else.

Two shops told me my exchanger was cracked. Grit & Gauge put the analyzer on it, printed 0 ppm, and sold me a $210 ignitor instead of a $5,400 furnace. They keep the reading in my gauge file and mention it every fall, cheerfully.
W. Dabrowski · Second opinion, Nine Elbow
The gauge file is the whole thing. When our heat pump started short-cycling they pulled four years of readings, found the airflow drift, sealed two ducts — ninety minutes, no new equipment. That folder is worth more than any warranty.

Asked over the counter

Is the no-overtime thing a gimmick with a trip fee instead?

No trip fee, no fuel surcharge, no "after-hours diagnostic" line item. The wall rate is the invoice rate. We staff two on-call rotations in January instead of one, which costs us a salary and saves you the theatre.

What if the repair costs more than the wall says?

Then it is a replacement, and replacements are quoted from the wall too — the install rows above are starting points, adjusted by your load calculation, not by your urgency. If a part surprises us mid-job, the surprise is ours to absorb; the invoice does not get edited after approval.

Why print combustion numbers at all?

Because it turns "your exchanger might be cracked" into a measurement. Carbon monoxide in parts per million, stack temperature, efficiency — printed, dated, filed. Two calls in five leave with a repair once the gauges come out, and our business survives on the next call anyway.

Do you finance installs?

Yes — 0% for 18 months through the credit union on the corner, paperwork filled in at the shop with the rate card between us. The wall price and the financed price are the same price; the credit union pays us the difference, not you.

How old is the wall, really?

The board is from 2009. The rates on it are reprinted every January and dated at the bottom — ask the tech to see the photo of the current one, or come by 6 Gauge Alley and read the original.

Put the wall to the test.

Tell us what the house is doing. A technician replies the same business day — and if it is an emergency, hang up on this form and call the shop; the wall rate applies whatever the hour.
