Vellum is a two-person interior studio for people who notice walls: hand-cut lines, wallpaper hung the booked way, and a printed room card that prices the job before we open a tin. No sales visits, no starting-from — the card is the quote.

The card above is the 2026 card. It has changed four times in fifteen years — each time because paint did, never because a customer had signed something.

The room card
Every card price carries the prep, the coats, the furniture and the clean-up. Paint goes on the invoice at the till price, receipt stapled. Count the rooms; that is the bill.

How it goes
One room, four visits
The same sequence on every card — the only variable is how many rooms you counted.
The walkthrough — free, forty minutes
We measure the rooms you name, note ceiling heights and picture rails, and leave the card with its lines filled in. A room the card does not fit gets its own line, written at your table.
The sample on your wall
For any colour beyond white we leave two large painted patches where the sofa will be, and come back in three days. North light lies at the counter; it does not lie on your wall.
The room, sheeted and cut
Furniture to the centre under cloth, floors papered, lines cut by hand at ceiling and trim. Two coats laid off wet, brushed woodwork last — the order that never needs a callback.
The hand-back
Everything back on its felt pads, floors vacuumed edge to edge, and the leftover paint labelled by room and left where you will find it in 2029.
The card said $1,844 for six rooms. The invoice said $1,844. I asked Colette if that was a typo and she looked genuinely puzzled.

Three rooms from the card
Our 1904 double parlour has picture rails, a sunburst transom and zero square corners. Vellum cut every line by hand, and the paper pattern lands on the chimney breast like it was printed there.
They worked around a newborn, a dog and a husband on nights. The bedroom was ours again every evening they promised, and the tent came down with the last bit of tape.
I specify paint for a living, which makes me the worst customer alive. Colette answered every sheen question with a sample instead of a slogan.
The card is the bill
If the invoice exceeds the card for the rooms we walked through together, the difference is ours to eat, not yours to find. Fifteen years, four price changes, zero asterisks.

Fair questions
Do you move the furniture?
Card prices include it — moved to the centre, covered, and back on its felt pads. Breakables and electronics we ask you to take, because insurance is about honesty, not paperwork.
Which paint do you use?
Washable matte and eggshell from the makers you would pick yourself — chosen at the walkthrough, billed at the till price with the receipt stapled to your invoice.
Can we stay in the house?
That is how most of Wefton does it: one room at a time, tented and HEPA-extracted, with the bedroom and kitchen out of service only on the nights the card says.
How far out is the calendar?
Three weeks for a room, five for a floor, longer in the pre-holiday rush. We would rather quote you March honestly than promise February hopefully.
Will you hang paper I bought myself?
Gladly — we check the batch numbers with you before the first strip is cut, because two rolls from two batches will argue at the seam for thirty years.
