The card is the quote
Every Blue Line estimate is the card with your measurements written on it — the same numbers the last customer got. Square-footage bands decide where in each range a drive lands, and we say which band before you sign, not after we mill.
How a mat ages well
The maintenance calendar
Asphalt is not a purchase, it is a schedule. Follow the calendar and a driveway outlives the mortgage; ignore it and year ten gets expensive. Four dates, none of them negotiable with the weather.
Year 0 — the cure
Ninety days of staying off it with anything sharp-pointed. Foot traffic in a day, cars in three to five depending on heat. We leave the dates on a card on your door.
Year 1 — first sealcoat
One season of weather, then two squeegee coats. The first seal does more for a mat’s life than any coat after it.
Years 3–4 — the cycle
Seal every third or fourth season after that, cracks routed and hot-filled each time. Sealing every year builds a film that peels; the cycle is the medicine.
Year 10 — the verdict
We measure the mat and say which it wants: another cycle, a mill-and-overlay, or full-depth reclaim. The measure is free, and so is the honest answer.
Full-depth reclaim
Your old driveway is the new base
A failed drive is usually four to six inches of asphalt-and-base that can be pulverized, regraded and re-compacted in place — a new base for a new mat, at $1.95 a foot instead of a rip-out and a hundred truckloads to the landfill. Every kilo of your old mat that we can keep stays on your site; what does leave goes to the plant and comes back as RAP in next season’s mix.
Nothing you paid for leaves the property
Reclaim keeps the material you already own working as the base under your new mat — and the millings we do haul return as recycled asphalt pavement in the mix we lay. The Blue Line yard has sent less driveway to landfill each year since 2016, and none at all last season.
2025 — 2026
Recent mats
Blue Line reclaimed our cratered lane instead of ripping it out — pulverized the old drive into the new base in a day and laid the mat the next. Half the price of the tear-out quotes, and watching forty years of driveway become the foundation under the new one was the best part.
They came back at year one to seal, at year four to seal again, and called US both times. This spring they measured the mat and said it wanted one more cycle, not an overlay. An asphalt company that talks you out of work — that is the whole reason the neighbourhood uses them.
Our lot drains now. That is the review. They cut the crown, fixed the catch basins, laid two lifts in a weekend so we opened Monday, and the card price was the invoice price to the dollar.
How much of my new driveway is recycled?
About thirty percent of the mix is RAP — milled-up old pavement, including the drives we reclaim and the sweepings our plant partners return to us. It is not a compromise: modern RAP mixes test at or above virgin spec, and it keeps the price of a mat from tracking the price of a barrel.
What exactly is full-depth reclaim?
A reclaimer grinds your existing asphalt and base together in place, we regrade and re-compact it as a new base, and the fresh mat goes on top. You keep the material you already paid for, skip the rip-out trucks, and the drive ends up stronger — $1.95 a foot against $4.40 and up for a full rebuild.
When can I drive on the new mat?
Foot traffic next day, cars in three to five days depending on heat, and sharp things — motorcycle jiffy stands, trailer tongues — for a couple of weeks. The cure card we leave on your door has the actual dates for your actual weather, not a pamphlet’s guess.
Should a new driveway be sealed right away?
No — that is the fastest way to ruin one. A mat needs about ninety days to cure before its first sealcoat, then every third or fourth season. Anyone knocking on doors to seal your month-old driveway is selling film, not protection.
The four regulars
Asked at the measure
The measure is free and the answers do not change with the size of your drive. If yours is not here, the yard line runs seven to five and the person on it has laid mat in your neighbourhood.
