The shop where the dog is the customer
Wagtail & Whisker is an independent pet store: food we would feed our own, gear we have field-tested, and a biscuit jar that never runs empty. Bring the leash.
Food with the label read for you
Every food on our shelves passed the ingredient test we apply to our own kitchen. If we cannot explain the third ingredient, it does not get a shelf.
Gear that survived the shop dog
Harnesses, leashes and toys graded by Waffles the shop beagle. His veto is final and has saved you a fortune in shredded rubber.
Rescue-first
Adoption days the first Sunday of every month, with the county shelter in the back room and treats on the house.

Events
This month at the shop
Free, dog-friendly, and the coffee is on us. Well-behaved humans welcome too.
First Sunday
Adoption day
County shelter residency, 11–3. Twenty-two adoptions so far this year — ask about the foster-to-adopt tea.
Second Saturday
Nail trims by donation
Ten minutes, all donations to the shelter fund. No appointment, one queue, plenty of biscuits.
Third Thursday
Puppy social hour
Vaccinated pups under six months, 6–7 p.m. A trainer moderates; the shop provides the mop.
Last Friday
Fish & reptile clinic
Water testing free, questions free-er. Bring a sample in any clean jar.
They talked me OUT of the expensive food because my dog's kidney numbers wanted the other one. A pet store that argues with the till in the animal's favour has me for life.
We adopted Maple at an adoption day here after months of scrolling shelters online. The shop made the introduction easy — and gifted her first bag of food.
Waffles vetoed three harnesses before approving one for my puller. He was right every time. That beagle is the best employee in Willow Creek.
Do you price-match the big boxes?
Not the giant ones, no — we cannot and stay open. But the refill discount on food and bags is real, the fittings and water tests are free, and the advice comes from people who remember your animal's name.
Can I bring my dog in?
Yes — leashed or carried, that is the whole point. Fresh water is by the door, and the jar by the till is not decorative. Nervous dog? Come at opening, it's quietest.
Special orders?
Weekly. If it exists from our distributors, we can usually have it inside a week with no markup beyond cost. Prescription diets need your vet's okay, which we will help you get.
Do you sell animals?
No — and never will. We host the county shelter's adoption days instead, and our fish and small animals come from local keepers we have visited. Adoption first is not a slogan here.
