What Brineworks does to water
The salt conversion
One visit on most pools: a generator cell sized to your gallons, unions on both ends so the next service is a twist, a flow switch so it can never run dry, and a recalibrated chemical set. The water softens within a day of run time, and the jugs go back to the store — permanently.
Pools built salt-first
A new Brineworks pool is designed from the water backward: returns aimed so the body turns over in under four hours, filtration the cell can live on, then the generator as a first-class citizen of the equipment pad — not a bolt-on the electrician meets for the first time at start-up.
Mineral & ozone systems
For the sensitive and the particular: low-salinity mineral systems, ozone pre-treatment that does the oxidising the sanitizer would otherwise do, and dosing pumps that read the water before they touch it. Softer water again — and a log that proves it every hour.
Cell care & the winter visit
A salt cell is a workhorse with one chore: an acid bath each season to strip the scale that insulates it. We schedule it, do it, and check the anodes while we are in there — the difference between a cell that lasts three years and one that quietly dies in its second.
Chlorine is not the enemy — hauling it is. A generator makes exactly what the water needs, on site, at swimmer strength, and the log keeps it honest while you float.

The jug-free questions
The five every Ashpan Valley kitchen reaches once the word "salt" lands. The water line answers seven to five, valley-wide.
Is a salt pool still a chlorine pool?
Yes — and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling fragrance. The generator electrolyses brine into sanitizer at swimmer-grade strength, continuously, so the water reads a low steady residual instead of the peaks and crashes of dosed jugs. Same chemistry, gentler delivery, no hauling.
Will it taste salty?
Barely, if at all: we hold 2,700 parts per million, a tenth of seawater and a little under a tear. You will feel it — the softness, the lack of bleach smell, swims that do not end with a shower — before you would ever taste it.
What does the conversion do to my existing equipment?
Nothing bad, if it is plumbed right: unions and a flow switch on the cell, a check of the heater’s exchanger and the liner or finish warranty, and a recalibrated test kit. Done wrong — no flow switch, undersized cell — is how salt got its scary reputation; done right it is a Tuesday.
Does the cell need work?
One chore: an annual acid bath to strip the calcium scale that insulates the plates, plus an anode check while it is on the bench. We put the visit on the calendar at commissioning. Cells we size and service run a median three years; the ones we inherit from quick conversions often do not finish two.
What about the turnover number you keep quoting?
Gallons divided by flow: the hours the whole body takes to pass the filter. A generator only sanitises the water that reaches it, so a pool that turns over in six hours asks its cell to work twice as hard as one that turns over in three. We fix the hydraulics first, or the cell is buying a problem a pump should solve.

Day 1
The water call
We come with a proper test kit — not a strip — and read gallons, flow, cyanuric acid and the equipment pad. Conversions quote from these numbers; nobody sells you a cell before the water has been met.
Days 2–3
Hydraulics first, if needed
If the pool turns over slowly, the fix comes before the generator: returns re-aimed, pump right-sized, filter matched. The cell arrives into water that moves — the whole reason ours last.
Day 4
The conversion visit
Cell in with unions and a flow switch, dosing recalibrated, controls paired to your phone. Most pools are swimming the same evening; the softness settles in fully within a day of run time.
Week 2 & after
The log, and the season visits
The chemistry log starts writing at commissioning. We read it with you at two weeks, once more at the season turn, and the annual acid bath goes on the calendar before we leave the first time.
Sized, or we say so
The cell is sized to your gallons and your turnover, from measurements we took — not from the box a supplier had that week. Undersized on our watch and the replacement is ours.
The log is the promise
Every system writes an hourly chemistry log you can read from anywhere. "The water’s fine" is a number with a timestamp on it — and you hold the whole history.
Winterised, not abandoned
The winter visit backs the output down to the season, inspects the anodes, and books the spring restart. Salt systems fail in the off-season more than in July; we treat the off-season as the season.

Soft water, unsolicited opinions
Two kids, a dog and eleven summers of hauling jugs. The conversion took a day, the water softened by the weekend, and I have not been to the pool store since March. The log page is oddly addictive — the pH line just sits there being right.
They found my turnover at six hours and refused to sell me the cell until the plumbing was fixed. New pump schedule, re-aimed returns, then the generator — and the water is clearer than the week the pool was new. That order is the whole company.
Our spa smelled like a bleach factory for nine years. It runs 104 degrees on salt now, the grandchildren stop complaining about their eyes, and the annual acid-bath visit is the only time we see the crew — which is exactly the right amount.
