Everything on the fire, everything from the valley

Emberline cooks over oak and olive wood: valley vegetables, day-boat fish when we can get it, and a wine list that reads like a walk through the county. Sixty seats, two seatings, one menu that changes when the farms do.

The fire decides

One wood oven, one grill, no gas in the kitchen. It is slower, temperamental, and the entire reason anything tastes like this.

Eleven valley farms

The menu is written after the farm deliveries, not before. Ask what came in this morning — the answer is the menu.

A county wine list

Ninety bottles, most from within an afternoon's drive, twelve by the glass. The list tells you where the winemaker went to school. Nowhere.

House rules

How we run the room

1

Two seatings

5:30–7:30 and 7:45–close, so every table gets an unhurried evening — and the kitchen can cook properly for the room it has.

2

The counter is walk-in

Eight seats facing the fire, first come first seated. Solo diners: this is your throne, and the cooks will talk to you.

3

Dietaries, gladly

Tell us when you book. The fire kitchen is flexible — most of the menu bends vegetarian, much of it vegan, coeliac is routine.

4

Kids, early

The 5:30 seating loves families. High chairs, half portions from anything, and the kitchen will do plain pasta without judgment.

The beetroot dish made a beetroot believer out of me, which I still don't fully understand. The wine list is the only one in town where I've drunk everything and would again.
Priya N. · Regular, counter seat
Took my father for his 70th. They asked his name at booking and the dessert plate said Happy Birthday, Emile. He talks about the fire more than the cake, which says everything.
The Rousselle family · Saturday, second seating
Coeliac, and the first kitchen in years where I relaxed. The server knew the fryer, the grill, the board — it was clear the kitchen had briefed the room, not the other way round.
D. Osei · Anniversary dinner
A short menu is a promise: everything on it is something we're proud of tonight.
Marta Ivanova, chef-owner
How far ahead should I book?

Weekends: two to three weeks. Weekdays: a few days usually does it. Parties of 6+ are the chef's table by the fire — book by phone so we can plan the menu around you.

Can you do vegetarian / vegan tastings?

Yes, and they are not an apology. The fire kitchen's strength is vegetables; the plant menu runs the same length as the standard one. Tell us 24 hours ahead.

Is there parking?

The Foundry Street lot is two minutes' walk and free after 5. The old-town streets fill on Saturdays — the counter is your friend on a night you didn't book.

Do you do gift cards?

Any amount, physical or by email, and they never expire. Ask at the host stand or by phone — we can post one the same day.
