Ledgewood Siding Studio · Ellsworth Bay & Quarrystone Point

Choose it once, in your own light.

Ledgewood is a cladding studio, not a crew with a brochure: real corner samples in your yard, a color deck read at the hour your wall actually faces, and a fixed per-square-foot quote before anything is ordered. Fiber cement in factory finishes, engineered wood sprayed on site, cedar where the street asks for it — wrapped, flashed and rain-screened, 10 mm off the wrap.

What we do

The material rooms

James Hardie, ColorPlus

Fiber cement at a 6.25″ exposure, blind-nailed, finished at the factory in four baked coats — thirty years against chalking and fading, transferable once with the house. The quiet choice on the Point, where storm light does what it wants with site paint. From $9.60 a square foot, tear-off included.

LP SmartSide’s treated strand core, primed, then two coats sprayed in the studio’s own mix — the widest color deck we offer and the one the heritage streets keep asking for. From $7.10 a square foot on sheltered walls.

Cedar, shake & accent

Western red cedar at the gables, shakes on the dormers, stainless ring-shank fasteners anywhere within a mile of salt. It is the material the bay was built in, hung the way it was then and wrapped the way it should have been. From $13.90 a square foot.

How a consult runs

The studio method

An hour at the studio wall and twenty minutes at your curb: material in hand, trim studied against the roof, the exposure — 6.25″ or 7.25″ — mocked up on a corner so you see the shadow line the catalog cannot show you. You leave with the samples, the fixed quote and a color code, in that order.

The week of samples

Three full-size corner samples stay in your yard for a week — morning sun, storm light and dusk all get a vote before you do. Changed your mind twice? The quote does not move; only the color code does.

Around the bay

Six walls from Ellsworth Bay to Quarrystone Point, photographed at the final walk. Factory finishes hold in coastal light what site paint has to be talked into.

How it goes

From consult to walk, five visits

The same sequence on every studio job — the only variable is the lead time on your color code.

  1. Week 0

    The consult

Studio wall and curb, samples chosen, the fixed quote issued to the measured square foot. ColorPlus codes carry a three-to-four-week mill lead, told straight at the consult.

  2. Week 1

    The delivery window

Order placed direct with the distributor, scaffolding delivered on planks, plantings photographed before the first ladder goes up.

  3. Weeks 2–3

    Close-in and hang

Tear-off to sheathing, repairs priced ahead, wrap and flashings on, then the hang: blind-nailed on gauge, 10 mm rain-screen battens, butt joints sealed at 3/16″.

  4. Final week

    Caulk, coat, walk

Site-sprayed runs get their second coat, the magnet sweep runs twice, and both warranties register the same week — five years on the labor, thirty on the factory finish, in your name.

We stood at the curb for forty minutes with three corner samples while the light moved, and the sage I would have signed for at noon was the wrong green by four. Nobody hurried me. The wall went up six weeks later in the right one, and the neighbors have stopped to ask about it three times since.

Before the consult

Fair questions

The five every consult reaches by the second coffee. If yours is not here, the studio line runs Tuesday through Saturday, bay-wide.

Why a studio and not a door-to-door quote?

Because color and exposure are decided standing at the wall, not from a kitchen table with a laminated book. The samples spend a week in your light and the quote is fixed against the measured wall — the consult is the product; the siding follows from it.

ColorPlus or sprayed on site?

ColorPlus is baked at the factory and carries the thirty-year finish warranty; site spray is two coats over primed board with the whole deck to choose from. On the water we lean factory, two blocks back the deck opens up. We price both to the square foot and let the wall decide.

Can you match the house next door?

Usually — the common exposures and colors are still run, and the studio keeps a rack of discontinued corner samples for the odd ones. When an honest match is not there we say so at the consult, not after the order arrives.

What does the fixed quote include?

Tear-off and dumpster on planks, sheathing repair priced before it surprises you, wrap, tape, flashings, fasteners, scaffolding, the sample week, the second coat where site-sprayed, and the magnet sweep. One number times the measured wall.

How close to the water is cedar wise?

Within a mile of salt, cedar goes up on stainless ring-shanks and is sealed on all six faces or it streaks by year three — which is exactly how we hang it. Farther back, it is the gable accent the heritage streets were built with, and it ages the way they remember.
