Cedarholm Exteriors · Brandt Hollow & the Coldwater lakes · By appointment

Siding is the house saying who it is.

Cedarholm hangs fiber cement, engineered wood and true cedar for the Coldwater lakes — wrapped, flashed and rain-screened so the wall dries from both sides, finished in a factory color or a site-mixed coat matched to the water. One crew, no subcontractors, and a fixed quote before a single board is ordered.

What we do

The material room

James Hardie lap, ColorPlus

James Hardie lap, ColorPlus

Fiber cement, 6.25″ exposure, blind-nailed on gauge, factory-baked ColorPlus in Evening Blue, Timber Bark or Pearl Sage — thirty years against chalking and fading, and it never feeds a termite or swells by the lake. Installed from $9.60 a square foot, tear-off included.

LP SmartSide, painted on site

Engineered wood with a treated strand core: it cuts and carries like lumber, spans longer runs, and painted in two site coats it reads like the cedar the street was built with. From $7.05 a square foot on sheltered walls — the honest bargain of the room.

Board & batten, vertical

Board & batten, vertical

Vertical panel with batten over the seams — the farmhouse profile the valley remembers, in fiber cement or SmartSide, with vented panels at the gables. From $8.90 a square foot, and the most common ask on Coldwater barns.

Why the wall lasts

The dry gap

Every Cedarholm wall carries a ten-millimetre rain-screen gap — battens that hold the siding off the house-wrap so water that beats the face drains out the bottom and the wall dries from both sides. It is in the install manual for this climate and skipped by half the crews on the lake; walk any of our job sites and the gap is the first thing you can put a finger into.

Five years, filed for you

The manufacturer carries the board — thirty years on ColorPlus, prorated, transferable once. Cedarholm carries the labor: fastening, flashing, sealing and every caulk joint, five years, re-done free. We file both registrations the week of the walk.

The four layers

From sheathing out

1

Wrap

House-wrap lapped shingle-style, every seam taped and cap-nailed — the tape is what outlives the truck.

2

Flash

Integrated window and door flashings, Z-channel at every horizontal break, kick-out flashing where the rake meets the gutter.

3

Batten

The 10 mm rain-screen grid, insect-screened top and bottom so the air moves and nothing else does.

4

Hang

Starter to a laser, blind-nailed on gauge, 3/16″ butt joints left open for caulk — and the gauge sheet stays posted on the job wall.

The old aluminum was chalked to gray and the lake had been getting behind it for years. Cedarholm tore off, found three sheets of soft sheathing, photographed every repair before they wrapped — and the new Hardie in Evening Blue reads like a different, better house.
Alice Venner · Full re-side, Amity Ford
They kept the showroom appointment to the hour, with real corner samples and a color deck by the window. We changed our minds twice and nobody sighed; the quote to the square foot never moved once.
Ben & Juana Alcott · ColorPlus re-side, Brandt Hollow
Our 1906 farmhouse wanted board and batten and I wanted it watertight. The dry gap was the pitch and the proof — you can feel air move behind the siding at the weep. Two winters of lake wind and not one caulk line has moved.

Before you book the measure

Asked in the showroom

The five the corner samples always raise. If yours is not here, the shop line at the bottom of the page runs seven to five, lakes wide.

Hardie or LP, this close to the water?

On the immediate shore, fiber cement: it does not swell, it does not feed anything, and ColorPlus holds its color where lake sun and spray take site paint in five years. A mile back, SmartSide earns its lower price honestly — cut and painted properly it outlives a mortgage too. We quote both and hang both; the house makes the call.

Can you match the profile still on the house?

Usually — the common exposures are still run and we keep a small rack of reclaimed cedar for the odd ones. When an honest match is not there we say so and quote the full elevation, because a patch that reads like a patch costs you twice: once in looks, once at resale.

How long is the house open?

A wall at a time, closed in the same day — the wrap goes onto bare sheathing before finish siding starts, so the weather has to beat the tape, not the boards. A whole house runs two to three weeks, and the schedule is printed before day one.

ColorPlus or painted on site?

ColorPlus is baked on in four thin coats at the factory and carries the thirty-year finish warranty untouched. Site paint is two sprayed coats over primed board — the choice is a wider color deck on site versus a longer warranty in the factory, and we show both under the showroom window before you pick.

What does the quote include?

Tear-off and disposal on planks over the drive, sheathing repairs priced before they surprise you, house-wrap and tape, all flashings, fasteners, scaffolding, the magnet sweep and the touch-up kit you keep. One number per square foot times the measured wall — the number is the number.
