Sixspark fabricates and repairs railings, gates, stair stringers and structural steel across the Carbon Valley — TIG where the weld shows, MIG where the load lives, powder-coat baked on at 200°C, and every guard built and tested to the 200-pound code load before it ships.

The Foundry Road shop

One bay, three certs, no excuses

A 4,000-foot bay on Foundry Road, a plasma table, a powder-coat oven the gate drives through, and a mobile rig for repairs across the valley. Everything structural is welded by a certified hand and everything cosmetic is finished by the same one — the weld nobody sees is the weld that holds, so nobody gets to phone it in.

Load-tested before it leaves

Every guard we build takes the code's 200-pound concentrated push on our own floor before it ships, and the test date is written on your install sheet. If an inspector ever asks us to prove it again on site, that visit is free.

What we weld

Railings — $95–140 / linear ft

Interior and exterior guards: posts anchored into steel or core-drilled into concrete, pickets, cable or glass-ready frames. Built to the 200-lb concentrated load and the 50-lb-per-foot top rail the code asks of a guard — and the numbers are stamped on the drawing.

Gates — by design, from $1,800

Driveway and pedestrian gates drawn per opening: leaf weight, hinge spec and wind load on the drawing before steel is ordered. Automation conduit built into the frame, not zip-tied to it afterwards.

Stair stringers — from $240 / stringer

CNC-plasma-cut pairs, drilled and notched for treads, load-rated for the run. Ship bare for your carpenter, or finished with grating treads and a matching rail from our shop.

Repair & reinforcement — $95 / hr + steel

Sagged gates, cracked welds, rusted posts, the railing the snowplough argued with. Mobile rig, same-week anywhere in the valley, and we weld it stronger than it was built the first time.

The city inspector put his level on the rail, then his whole weight, then wrote the pass sticker without a word. Fourteen metres of Coalbank sidewalk and not one rattle two winters later.

Our estate gate had sagged onto its own latch for a decade. Sixspark re-set the posts, replaced the bearings and welded in the diagonal the original fabricator skipped. It closes with one finger now.

Straight answers

If the question is not here, the shop line at the bottom of the page runs six to six, and someone over the torch will actually pick up.

TIG or MIG — which one is my job?

Both, usually. MIG lays the deep, penetrating welds inside frames where the strength lives; TIG finishes the beads at eye level — the stacked-dime look that decides whether a rail reads as craft. We do not charge extra for the pretty one.

Powder-coat or galvanize?

Powder-coat is colour applied electrostatically and baked at 200°C — indoors it outlasts paint five to one. Outdoors we hot-dip galvanize first, then powder over it: the zinc takes the weather, the colour takes the compliments.

What load does a railing actually need?

The code asks a guard to take a 200-pound push at the top rail and fifty pounds per linear foot along it. We design past it, weld past it, and then physically load-test it on the shop floor — the test date goes on your paperwork.

Can you match my existing railing?

Bring a photo of the picket profile. Half the valley's rails are two standard patterns; for the odd ones, our plasma table can cut a matching picket from a photograph and one caliper reading.

Do you engineer the drawings?

Every structural thing we build leaves with a load-rated shop drawing — stringers, guards, gate frames. For stamped engineering on complex structures we work with Maddox Engineering on Third Street and carry the whole package ourselves.
