The bay on Kessler Street
One bay, three certified welders, a plasma table and a powder oven the gate drives through before it ever drives to you. We are small on purpose: quotes come from the person who will cut the steel, and the phone is answered by whoever is closest to it. Big enough to hold the certifications, small enough that nothing about your job is explained to a stranger first.
The weld you cannot see is the one we test
Sample coupons from every batch of structural work go on the bench and get broken on purpose — if the weld does not fail before the parent metal, the batch ships. Most shops keep that to themselves; we keep the broken coupons in a tray by the door.

I run a pub, not a construction site. Torchline sent the drawing on a Tuesday, the price never moved, and the firescreen arrived powder-coated in the exact green of the settling rooms. Two regulars have since had rails made by them, and one of them asked for “the same welds” — which tells you how the beads look.

Asked over the counter
The five the counter hears every week. The shop line at the bottom runs six to six, and the person who answers is standing next to the person who would do the work.
Do you weld aluminium?
Yes — TIG, with the machine set up for it and the right filler, which is more than most general shops can honestly say. Aluminium railings and brackets for boats and trailers are a quiet specialism of ours. What we will not do is weld aluminium to steel, because physics declines, and anyone who says otherwise is selling you a joint that will fail by Christmas.
Repair it or replace it?
We will tell you which, with the price of both, and we lean towards repair more than most — a re-welded and re-hung gate is often stronger than the day it was made. Replacement wins when the frame is rusted through from the inside, and you can usually tell from one photograph of the bottom rail.
What colours can I have?
The powder card runs to about two hundred, from matte black to the brass-tone the Brewery picked. Colour costs nothing extra on the card; texture — hammertone, wrinkle — costs a little because it runs slower through the oven. We hold swatches at the counter; the light in your yard beats any screen.
Are you actually certified?
Three certified welders on the floor, structural work welded to qualified procedures, and the broken test coupons in the tray by the door if words are not enough. For stamped engineering on anything exotic, we bring in an engineer and carry the package — same as the big shops, minus the two weeks of phone tag.
How fast, really?
Repairs: usually inside the week, the rig covers all five towns. Rails and gates: two to four weeks depending on the powder queue, and we say which week at the quote, not after you ask. Small bracket work sometimes goes out in days — the plasma table likes small batches.
